Recap: Survivalism

OK, we just worked through an enormous chunk of coaching. If this were a metaphorical hiking trail (in fact, it is a metaphorical hiking trail, because it's obviously not a real hiking trail), then we're nearing a time to sit back for a bit to look at the view, take a drink, and have a snack.

But, before we do, let's revisit the description of the things that make up "survival."

Survival, for a human being, means that you:

At a basic level, play it safe, fit in, seek gratification, and avoid discomfort.

Value acquisition, prestige, and domination.

Value and pursue winning social status contests, including but not limited to:

Dominating others, and avoiding domination.

Justifying yourself, and invalidating others.

Being right, and making others wrong.

Humiliating others, and avoiding humiliation.

Condemning others, and avoiding condemnation.

If there is one thing I would add to flesh things out, I'd include a notation that gratification includes sex. Of course. This is the real world.

Take a little time right now, if you would, go back, and look over the summary of survival-based values again.

Once you're done, like we said, this is a good time to pause and take a break. Get a bite to eat, have some apple cider--I'm a big fan of apple cider--and maybe gaze out the window and see what there is to see.

When you return, we'll explore the other fundamental purpose that you have the capacity to adopt as a human being. You might like this one a whole lot more.
